Consultancy: Baseline Assessment on Chemicals of Concern in Plastic Products in Kenya

The Centre for Environment Justice and Development (CEJAD) is seeking a qualified consultant to conduct a baseline assessment of hazardous chemicals in plastic products in Kenya. The consultancy aims to identify priority chemicals of concern (such as phthalates, flame retardants, PFAS, and others), assess associated risks, and recommend safer alternatives and regulatory measures.

The consultant will work closely with CEJAD and the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) to:

  • Analyse chemical hazards in toys, textiles, construction materials, food-contact plastics, agricultural plastics, and kitchenware.
  • Benchmark international best practices.
  • Support the development of national standards and extended producer responsibility (EPR) schemes.
