Animated Explainer Series on Kenya’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Framework

Application deadline: Friday, 11 September 2026 18:00

Centre for Environment Justice and Development (CEJAD), with support from the Heinrich Böll Foundation (HBF), is seeking to engage a qualified animator/animation expert to develop a series of five short, animated explainer videos on Kenya’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework.

The series will primarily support policymakers by providing practical explanations of EPR principles, obligations and implementation mechanisms while also serving as educational resources for broader public awareness.

The five episodes will cover:

  1. Understanding EPR and its role in sustainable waste management
  2. Who does what? – the roles of key actors in the EPR system
  3. How EPR works – from registration and collection to recycling and resource recovery
  4. Making EPR work – financing, reporting, monitoring, compliance and accountability
  5. Waste pickers and EPR – strengthening their recognition and participation in the system

The animations will use relatable Kenyan settings and characters, realistic waste management scenarios and a clean, accessible visual style, while maintaining accuracy and consistency with Kenya’s EPR and waste management framework.

CEJAD is inviting qualified animation, motion graphics and multimedia professionals or studios to submit proposals for the development of the series. The assignment is expected to run from September to November 2026.
